Fuel/Charging Costs

When people look at electric vehicles and compare them to gasoline powered vehicles, the one thing that should pop out the most is yearly charge/fuel costs. The average cost per hour to charge your electric car is about 19 cents per kilowatt hour that means it cost $1.52 to charge your car for 8 hours, a whole night. The average cost per gallon of gas is at about $3.076, meaning its going to cost over $30.00 to fill up a tank depending on the amount of gas you have already in the car. Just looking over those number, would you rather spend $1.52 and only have to charge once a week or $30 and have to fill up maybe more than once a week depending on your driving habits.

Benefits of owning an electric vehicle in NY

According to the NYSERDA ( New York State Energy Research and Development Authority) “The Drive Clean Rebate offers New York State residents a point-of-sale rebate of up to $2,000 towards the purchase or lease of a new electric car. ” This means that people purchasing electric vehicles will receive a payment up to $2,000 from a car dealership while purchasing an electric car. This payment is not separate from the bill, but is actually a form of a discount, people purchasing an electric vehicle will receive up to that amount off of the purchase of the cars original price.

According to Energy.gov “A tax credit is available for the purchase of a new qualified PEV that draws propulsion using a traction battery that has at least five kilowatt-hours (kWh) of capacity, uses an external source of energy to recharge the battery, has a gross vehicle weight rating of up to 14,000 pounds, and meets specified emission standards. The minimum credit amount is $2,500, and the credit may be up to $7,500, based on each vehicle’s traction battery capacity and the gross vehicle weight rating.” Not only are people in the state of NY receiving a rebate from car dealerships in order to purchase an electric vehicle, but people can receive up to $7500 just for owning the vehicle yearly. This is showing how e.v’s can be pleasant surprises with these incentives, cheap charging costs, and different styles being produced there’s no reason to why they should not used. As technology advances its just going to get better.
